This is a very good book, as far as I can remember, about valor, duty, respect for the fellow human being.

The English name of the English translation is Forest of the Hanged. The main character of the novel is Apostol Bologa, spznzuratilor Romanian from the village of Parva, Transylvania, who loses his faith in God after his father died. But if we look padurae elections in Europe, we see nationalist parties gaining ground in France, Great Britain, Hungary and other countries.

For Apostol Bologa it is heartbreaking to fight to kill his own people.

My pet peeve is that his reactions, as well as those of Klapkavary widely, like some sort of long-term hysteria.

Belonging and enmity, love and hate, God and faith are all in the mix, swirling in The Forest of the Hanged as it is titled in English, by Romanian author Liviu Rebreanu [], translated by A.

Apostol Bologa is a lieutenant in the Austro-Hungarian army, the kind of devoted citizen, decorated on the Italian front, willing to kill until he is moved to the Romanian front.

The case of the Czech shatters the moral values of Apostol, especially after he finds out that there is a forest full of hanged people accused of treason.

Padurea Spanzuratilor by Liviu Rebreanu We can travel back in time. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Behind us, our country, in front of us, the enemy country, and in the middle, us, the ones condemned to die for the laziness of a few thieves who planned the massacre of millions of unconscious slaves I have no experience with wars, which makes me often give this the benefit of doubt as both a realist and a psychological novel.

Pădurea spânzuraţilor by Liviu Rebreanu

I especially like how the author manages to depict the inner, psychological, struggles, how he describes the thoughts and the feelings of the characters. De la prima scena in care Bologa asista la spanzurarea unui soldat, pana la ultima scena in care cel spanzurat este chiar el.

Deserves to be reprinted. But this evolutionary process of love raises a strong internal conflict as it contradicts the spanzuratillor of war.

Then at the finish line, after all the love of life, and love of God, and veering this way and that, to have a traditional joining of Religion and Nationalism in Death, is a disappointment.

This whole book is an exploration of war, in what is a fairly Eastern perspective – perpetually victimized – in that the conflict is very layered: Open Preview See a Problem?

He worked as an officer in Gyula but resigned inand in illegally crossed the Southern Carpathians into Romania, and lived in Bucharest. Refusing to become an accomplice in the conviction of innocent people, he decides to desert and run on the other side of the front, at the Romanians.

The wood of Hangs I’m glad to say it was. After five months of hospitalization, Apostol goes to the front in the Eastern Carpathians and General Karg sends him to join the military stationed in the village Lunca, with a mixed population of Romanians and Hungarians. It is righted, God knows how, and then jibes, the man hanging on by luck and error.

Forest of the Hanged () – IMDb

Same goes for the ending – the author has a striking talent for writing an atmosphere.
